In April 2006 we bought a great house near Forest Park. It is about 90 years old and we spent countless hours renovating the interior and landscaping the exterior. Corrin continued to work at Memorial Presbyterian Church and started a floral design business called Urban Bloom. Clif slowly moved forward with his degree and spent many evenings tutoring Chemistry students. We had several international students live with us and celebrated the many weddings and births with our friends. Vacations to South Africa, Cape Cod, Asheville, Jamaica and Hawaii were a delight. On each trip we were asked repeatedly, "Are you on your honeymoon?" We've started to reply, "We are on our 4th. We try to take one every year." We also traveled to D.C., Texas, California, Chattanooga, Alabama, Florida, and Atlanta to visit friends. Corrin quit her work at the church when Clif approached his graduation date. In March of 2009 Clif handed in his dissertation and cleared off his desk at Wash. U. We thought we were going to move to Nigeria...we didn't. We thought we were going to move to CA then WA then AL then NC and we didn't. Clif worked for a law firm doing patent work and Corrin took counseling classes and started on her doctorate at Covenant Seminary. Corrin's dad came to visit for Thanksgiving in 2008 and we ate a delicious meal on his mother's china. We were so thankful that he visited because it was only a few months later that he died of prostate cancer. We miss him so. When we were first married we had one pet, Henry. He is a yorkie. Soon we added Olive, another yorkie. On our second anniversary we found out that Henry and Olive were pregnant and we ended up with Miss Potter. We don't know where we will end up, but at least we are together. Clif hopes to go to law school soon and Corrin would like to once again work for a church or an adoption agency.
How We Met...
September, 2004 - As Told By Corrin - Finding my fiancée was a perk of my fabulous job. You see, Clif visited the church for the first time back in Sept. of 2004. We became friends and he was interested in dating me, but I was in a relationship with someone else. When a friend told Clif that I was unavailable he said, "that might not always be the case, I'll wait." Clif waited patiently and pursued a friendship with me, even loaning me his car for a month when I had an accident. Yes, he is SO sweet! He always seemed to be around. If I planned an activity for the church community, he was there (independent films about Buddhist female monks, meet my new puppy party, and even an evening in Forest Park with a bunch of women).
In May 2005 when my relationship ended, Clif was jumping up and down. He expected to wait several months before asking me out (so that I would have some time to clear my head), but I think he lasted a week. We had a couple of long conversations via phone and the Kenyon's front porch before Clif asked me out on our first date. June 17th, we had dinner at his house and took my new little puppy, Henry, for a walk. Even though we are very different Clif won me over with his love for the Lord and passionate pursuit of my heart.
We dated for six months.
Engagement...
December 15, 2005 - As Told By Clif - Thursday night was our typical date night, set aside so that the week wouldn't get the better of us. I picked Corrin up at her place at about 5pm, she wore a gorgeous black velvet and purple dress that flowed like sunshine as she walked. I told her that we were first going for a horse-drawn carriage ride through Tilles Park to see the Christmas lights. It was then that she knew it would be some time that night, sooner or later,
that I would ask her to marry me.
It wasn't too cold, and it snowed a little, but not too much. Just enough for the effect. The ride was pleasant, even though the blanket was wet and smelled like a wet yak. Soon we were on our way back to the Delmar Loop to have dinner at the Melting Pot. We sat down, just the two of us, to a nice long dinner that steamed and simmered right before us. We first had a cheese fondue with bread and apples, followed by stewed meats in brothy wine and finished with a chocolate fondue with fruit and cakes. We split a bottle of good Chardonnay.
On the way to the car I contrived some excuse to get to the fountains by the Art Museum in Forest Park. That is where I wanted to ask her. It snowed again. Just a little. Once we got to the spot, I told her that I loved her and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I knelt on one knee, just like in the movies, and I asked the words that in my mind sounded so simple but once in the air seemed to hang. Quickly, far more quickly than I ever anticipated,
she said yes, clear and bright.
Our Wedding...
June 24, 2006 - We were married at Memorial Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO where we are both members. There was a cake reception at the church followed by a private dinner at the World's Fair Pavilion in Forest Park. Later that evening everyone danced under the stars at the pavilion to the tunes of a live band. It was an amazing day and we were so blessed by all of our friends and family who were in attendance. We spent our honeymoon in Asheville, NC.
